They may even be employed by other writers or authors, or by you Jo Soap.

In that last context, you may have a story you need told in a written form. But you simply don't know how to go about writing with the view of having it published (told) legally (see Writing Rules by Leo Hunter in particular).

Since they're employed, they obviously must be paid. And the going rate in the UK for freelance ghostwriters is around £250 per thousand words (at the time of writing this piece). But that may be substantially reduced if the piece commissioned to write is to be written as a seventy-thousand word novel (fiction) for example.

What the commissioning employers get for their money obviously depends on the contract. But generally speaking ghostwriters ought to ensure there is at least adequate, admissible, and reliable evidence to corroborate what they write. And that requires research materials obtained by them legally. In other words, they're not merely copywriters. They must investigate the evidence produced by their commissioners (employers), plus obtain their own materials if necessary. Copywriters merely type the stories. And that's essentially why it costs so much besides the thorny issues of copyrights, consent, and who in fact is to be named as the author. Any ghostwriter who agrees to write for less is a fool.

Those issues of copyright and consent are well outside the commissioned remit of this piece. But it's quite normal for the said employer to be named as the author. And that's simply because they are the employer. But on the other hand, it's also normal for employers to actually distance themselves from public scrutiny for whatever reason. So whatever else you do, check the contract thoroughly on that identification issue, and particularly in the context of copyrights. If it's actually silent on that issue, you can safely bet the employer will be so named as the author owning copyrights as implied by intellectual property law and employment law.

Nasty stuff that, implied law; compounded by the insidious fact that no law whatsoever protects your ideas contained with intellectual property. So be extremely careful if you're tempted to become a ghostwriter. Know the relevant law inside out before you do is the best advice l can give. Or seek reliable legal advice on the contract backed up by a second opinion before you accept it.

So there you have it in the proverbial nutshell. Ghostwriters are employed beasts, commissioned to investigate and research the matter at hand then write (report) their findings on the behalf of their employers. Be it on your own conscience if you as the ghostwriter conclude as directed though.

Able Limited Editions offer a ghostwriting service. But any such commissioned work undertaken will only be written from an apolitical perspective.

Leo Hunter

Writing Rules

- Writing Rules -

by

Leo Hunter

© Copyright 2010 Leo Hunter

Published by

Able Limited Editions

It seems only fair to me (Leo Hunter) to warn you as aspiring writers that besides the rules of submission, there are also rules of writing anything so that publishers will actually consider publishing your work. But most said publishers will not tell you what those writing rules are before you submit your work. Rightly or wrongly they assume you already know them. And universally applied law indicates that it's your sole responsibility to make sure you know those rules before you submit your work, or even write it.

Now it's in that last context l outline those rules here. And l start by clearly indicating the first and overriding rule to be aware of in my book, as far as UK law is concerned, is the fact that if you are found to be in possession of anything you intend to publish, or have published on your behalf, and it may be considered in law to be in any way illegal, you are committing a criminal offence. And from that insidious point all the other rules follow.

Secondly, publishing anything doesn't actually mean only by writing and passing that writing on to friends etc, whether or not free of any cost. It also means by broadcasting it in any way whatsoever, including your silent conduct, or distributing it in any way whatsoever. And in those contexts, the criminal offences of defamation, slander, and copyright infringements come into play, to name a few. And there are only two sure ways of being found not guilty. And they are to prove what you published is true, or you have consent from the accuser to so publish it. - Which brings me to the point of this paragraph. Rule number two is ensure you have corroborated evidence to prove your facts, or at least have written consent to write what you write from the individual concerned before you submit it for possible publication, or even tell your friends your story by any means whatsoever.

Thirdly if written consent can't be obtained from the individual concerned; but you still want to identify them in your work, meticulously carry out as much research as is legally possible to obtain corroborative evidence from at least two reliable independent sources. And get written consent from them regarding the targeted individual concerned. But don't pay for their consent.

Fourthly, secure all your evidence and consent forms preferably away from home or office. But keep copies relatively handy; yet still secure. You'll need them to then prove your case to the publisher, if not courts.

And fifth, try to leave blank spaces where you identify any person in non-fiction work when you submit it for possible publication. And indicate in a cover letter you have corroborated evidence to establish those facts. Any truthfully honest publisher will get back to you eagerly to sign a contract to publish; if your story actually reflects their editorial policy. But beware. There are many deceitful publishers who will not, who will instead employ your brilliant ideas therein your work as their own, legally.

That's right. No law in this world actually protects ideas or any established facts; except in the suppressive context of the Official Secrets Act, or if a judge declares there's to be no publicity of supposition or facts in any case before them. So again, beware; if covering any true story. Research facts.

And just to ice the writing rules cake, fiction is to be treated the same as non-fiction by law; if anyone can identify themselves in legal terms in it. So do be careful. And good luck. To have your work published as any said best seller is like winning the lottery; if not contrived. - Literally.

www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

Basic Steps To Self-Publishing Success

- Basic Steps To Self-Publishing [Success] -
by
Leo Hunter
All Rights Reserved 2007
Published by
Able Limited Editions
www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

Honest writers and authors alike who are unafraid of losing their commission or royalties etc, would publicly note that even if whomever you know is your best friend owns a top publishing company and gives you the nod on a publishing contract so-to-speak, that doesn't guarantee you as the writer or author of the product any publishing [success]. Like it or not mainstream publishers often pull the plug on distribution of their products, more than often charge their writers and authors editorial fees that effectively negate any royalties, and may enter their contract with aspiring writers and authors on a covert basis of not actually intending to promote the product adequately to ensure writing/authorship success.

To put it even blunter, there are no friends in any successful business. They are associates, partners, affiliates etc who, if doing their job properly (legally), must ensure their associates, partners, affiliates etc are not committing any offence etc. And you must also consider the fact that traditional publishers have the last editorial word when it comes to what is actually published.

That last introductory point isn't the case in self-publishing; except in the context that anyone who self-publishes is unlikely to permit anyone to edit, far less view their intellectual property (writing etc) to edit. That is unless they are ill-informed, ill-advised, unable, or simply far too trusting. Expressers of their own 'professional opinions' are generally immunized against any prosecution, as a legal rule.

But now you've decided to self-publish; after taking the necessary legal advice/s. Basic steps you ought to take to self-publish are not unlike those taken by any well-informed writer or author taking the 'conventional' route to publishing. First, you ought to decide who your target audience is – ie what's the subject matter of your intended ebook etc? And what's the reading level - ie do you intend to write in codified gobbledegook for a professional audience, or plain language for the public at large to understand without any ambiguity? And whether or not codified, do you intend to publish it as non-fiction, or fiction? Make sure you have adequate corroborative evidence as you write though, no matter which. It is a universally applied fact/law that the possession of any written etc work which 'may' be considered to be illegal or unlawful with intention to publish it, is a criminal offence in itself.

Basically the next step is to plan your book etc. That is narrow your subject matter down into issues/themes, allotting a chapter to each, possibly overlapping them if necessary to ensure your work 'flows', as is said. Then follow your focused or directed conscience as you carry out the complex chore of actually writing each paragraph, sentence, word, etc, in one recognizable and acceptable structure/style or other. As a self-publisher, that's all essentially up to you. But it's a good idea not to put too much data into each paragraph, or sentence, for your audience to consume. That is speed of intellect is a consideration.

The next two steps may appear to be obvious, to anyone not vain enough to believe they get it all right in one sitting. But when you consider [privately] your book etc is written, read and edit it at least a week after you first considered it to be written. Then repeat those editorial processes at least another three times. Even any good conventional publisher insists that writers/authors must proof-read their work at least three times once after each time the publisher edits their work. And that editorial procedure takes about six months.

Hopefully, your book etc will then be ready to publish. Whatever that actually means in conventional terms. Publishing, in legal terms, actually means by any spoken or written word/s, or any other means of private or public communication to any person. - But that explanatory fact/rule tucked well-and-truly into your evidential war-chest, your next step in self-publishing depends on whether or not you decided to copyright-protect your book etc through ISBN imprinting/publishing for the first time. If you did, go ahead. Create it using any good ebook compiler. Then start distributing/selling it accordingly. You don't have to lodge the required digital (CD) copies into the British Library vaults etc immediately. You have one month to do so, from the date you begin distribution/selling, privately or not. That is not until there's a change in the law to cover digital media as per print format books. And when that happens, if it's not your first ISBN book, you must give the appropriate written advance notice of each book etc you intend to publish with ISBN imprinting; before you start distribution/selling, privately or not. Six months notice isn't a legal requirement. But it's expected.

Of course, if you decided not to apply ISBN imprinting until there is a change in the law, go ahead and create the ebook etc. Then distribute and or sell it. But take heed: unless you have adequate guaranteed sales in advance as a self-publisher or your 'conventional' publisher 'guarantees' in advance that there will be adequate sales of your work as their writer/author in the royalty market, you must have a business plan you can adhere to for at least two years for each publication if you plan to make any profit or break even. The market is otherwise unpredictable; except in the context that your rivals will try to influence it against you. - And if a conventional writer/author, you will not receive any royalty/royalties from your publisher, if sales of your work are inadequate to cover any said advance payment given to you. - Whichever, your account books will take eighteen months (three conventional accounting periods) to balance out, plus six to reconcile differences caused through inevitable (essential) editorial costs etc.

And there you have self-publishing in the proverbial nutshell. Follow those steps and you won't go far wrong. But beware. A change in the law to cover digital format books as print format books is inevitable. But not before the end of 2010.

Take care. Publishing is cut throat business, where priceless intellectual property and defamation are concerned.

Able Limited Editions

eMarketing Considerations

eMarketing Considerations
by
Leo Hunter

All rights reserved 2009
Published by
Able Limited Editions

Ever wondered why about 94% of all internet entrepreneurs fail in internet business, and how roughly the same figure of organic Jo Soap web surfers are continually duped into accepting a bum internet-based deal, or three? Well read on. What l'm about to reveal is far more than merely intriguing.

That's right. 94% of internet-based entrepreneurial ventures fail. And that's not least of all because the entrepreneurs fail to consider the link between what's said to be acceptable civilized behaviour, and pure law of the jungle thuggery; in a climate where policing is largely left up to the thugs, by law.

And again, that's right. Policing the world wide web is said by politicians to be an impossible task, in that each country, and probably state within, has its own set of rules, based on universally applied principles of civilized law. Yet each entrepreneur and Jo Soap surfer is expected to know those rules, under the principle that ignorance of the law (rules) is not accepted as any defence whatsoever.

Now 'ignorance' not only means dissent or total disregard of the law etc. It also means actual lack of knowledge under that principle, whether or not due to residing behind any communistic-based iron curtain, or indeed lack of so-called intellect. And it's in that context of 'lack of knowledge', driven by an absolutely essential lack of opportunity, that entrepreneurs, and Jo Soap surfers, are expected to know the law pertaining to each country etc.

In this sense, knowledge, along with the opportunity to apply it truly is the driving force of civilized life. Not one without the other. And it's in that sad context that the successful 6% of entrepreneurs thrive. And they do simply by withholding the 'absolutely essential' knowledge from the unsuccessful 94%, or ensuring the unsuccessful 94% do not have the time or said power (legal authority) to apply it. And it's in that context that they are left by the law to police the world wide web jungle as relatively unfettered thugs. - Or did l mean gurus?

But what has that to do with Jo Soap surfers being caught in the same trap l hear some of you ponder? - Well, for one thing, it's 'gurus' who create and develop the millions of freebie ebooks and software programs, in the most part, and make them available online as gifts to their said 'affiliates' and Jo Soap alike. The affiliates then pass them on to sub-affiliates and Jo Soap as gifts, or indeed sell them under licence. But those gifts are filled with total non-sense and links to their other web sites, luring those affiliates and Jo Soap into the internet jungle, on some virtual promise of faceless internet-based riches to the holder/reader. And the deceit doesn't stop there.

No. But it would take a minimum of 230 pages of normal text to reveal the extent of that deceit. And my advice would be to read the comprehensive expose contained in e-Marketing Considerations if you would like to know that extent, relative to universally applied legal principles. It's not a freebie though. Not at least until it's lodged in the British Library (due May 2010). Nothing ever is when it comes to exposing the whole truth to the public at large; despite what internet gurus say about their said secrets of success to the contrary.

You know what l mean, according to law: all those hundreds, or thousands of focused (specialized) secrets on adsense marketing, ebook marketing, email marketing, ezine marketing, affiliate marketing, PPC marketing, SEO, and internet-based work from home schemes. And like the fact or not, you must consider the commercially deniable fact that they all affect you as an ordinary (organic) internet surfer in a law of the jungle economic climate of absolutely essential poverty.

No. It's one far-reaching un-policed jungle in the main, the world wide web; whether you're an internet-based entrepreneur or Jo Soap surfer. So please do consider this – the 94% entrepreneurial failure rate and the 94% Jo Soap surfer dupe rate are based solely on the policing thugs deceitfully applying the principle of directed and abused 'ignorance'.

Take extreme care in the internet jungle either way.

Able Limited Editions

eBook Compiler Rating

- eBook Compiler Ratings -
by
Leo Hunter
All Rights Reserved 2007
Published by
Able Limited Editions
www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

You've finished writing and editing all the files for your intended ebook. And you have a basic understanding of what an ebook compiler does (see Choosing An eBook Compiler (blog post archive). But you still feel overwhelmed by the amount and types of compilers on the market. Well now: that's no surprise. So in an informed attempt to help you to rate or select a compiler to suit your requirements, some of the most important features of a few of the best-rated compilers available, at this time of writing are outlined below. But please understand no comment below is instructional.

E-editor
This software has a downloadable demo version you may try out before purchasing the full version. You can't use the demo to create an ebook. But you can run and test it out. And you're likely to find it's one of the easiest compilers to use, according to published reviewers.

Whether or not you find the compiler easy to use, its software includes a help menu that provides instructions for and explanations of each field on each of 7 screens you're taken through. - It also includes video tutorials, demonstrating each step of this compiler, with explanations of all fields that must be filled out by you. But this compiler requires your files to be in HTML format to upload for it to then create your ebook, which ultimately means targeted audiences of ebooks created must have an appropriate browser installed on their PC etc to enable them to read your ebook/s.

Assuming the compiler has created your intended ebook, if you decide to then edit your ebook, you must make any required changes in your original files and click on 'Compile your eBook'. That done, your changes will appear in your ebook.

E-editor also allows for some customization/s of your ebook. - You may create a special page which appears when the ebook is opened for example, create customized icons that appear on the desktop after downloading, use your own logo on the ebook task bar, and customize the task bar buttons. - You may also select where the task bar appears in your ebook and choose the task bar colors. - And you can choose to have the ebook re-opened to the last page read.

Another feature of E-editor is it allows you to choose a standard Microsoft window or to create your own design for a window to personalize. As such, the program provides you with some sample window designs. But you can use any bmp (bit map skin) graphic you have stored on your hard drive.

Desktop Author
This compiler doesn't require intended reader audiences to have any browser on their PC etc to read ebooks etc created using this method. Nor do you have to download software or plug-ins. And it converts exe. files into pages that look like a standard book.

As such, you can create and produce ebook pages scaled to fit on your computer screen; without scrolling. And another handy feature is WYSIWGY (what you see is what you get) page editing and creation. It also includes the ability to manipulate internal images, cut and paste functions, hotlinks to pages, email, website, or other files. It's therefore an excellent compiler to use to create marketing tools such as brochures and manuals also.

Ebook Edit Pro
The manufacturer/s of this compiler provide/s a demo version, which allows you to test out its features. Its software uses a Wizard system which leads you step-by-step through the set-up and creation processes of ebook creation.

Customization includes text editing that appears on the pop-up start-message window, the ability to allow or prevent resizing of your ebook and the mouse-click pop-up menu. It also includes an enabling or disabling the navigation bar and choosing the buttons you want to appear and customization of the ebook's desktop icon and navigation bar logo.

Ebook Edit Pro features also include creation of multi-media ebooks, and Wizard which may be customized for beginners or advanced users. But your files must be HTML. But you may edit and re-save your HTML files in the original software used to create them, then re-compile your ebook with one mouse click.

You may also customize icons, toolbars and 'about box'. This compiler has a particularly useful feature called the Rebrander feature. - This permits you to enter customized code into your ebook pages and distribute the Rebrander software to affiliates, or distributors.

Those affiliates or distributors can then customize any ebook link you actually entered a code for. - In other words, the software includes an 'eBrand-It' function, allowing custom fields for any customer's name, affiliate ID or URL. This feature is a powerful marketing tool, because affiliates will be far more willing to offer your ebook from their site, since they may customize it by adding their brand name, url etc to it (concept of affiliation).

Ebook Compiler
The manufacturer/s of this compiler offer/s a demo version which allows you to compile up to 10 files into an ebook. But you cannot prevent printing and copying of the ebook. And you may give any amount of such created ebooks away. But you cannot sell any. You may sell any ebook created using the purchased software, however. And it has help files that guide you through the steps of compiling your ebook, besides explaining what an ebook compiler does.

The software also provides instructions on how to create source files from Microsoft Word 2000 and 1997, PowerPoint 2000 and 1997, lo-and-behold, along with HTML docs. Instructions on creating source files from other programs are nowhere near as detailed, however, at the time of writing this outline/overview. But this compiler has a function which allows you to password-protect your entire ebook, or for selected pages. And you can set your ebook to expire, which effectively means that your customers etc must ask you to give or sell them a password to open it to read. That also effectively means you may create a demo version of your ebook or any part thereof, for marketing purposes.

The password function also allows you to set a single password, or multiple passwords. That is, you may ensure each purchaser etc has their own password. Or you may create a different password per chapter etc for example. And online help files actually guide you through the password-protection procedure/s.

You may also create a sales and thank-you pages for password-protected ebooks, which means you have at least a chance of retaining necessary distribution control, rights etc, if you're careful enough when drafting any essential contract.

Active Ebook Compiler
This software is Ebook Compiler's big bro so-to-speak, in that it supports HTML, JPEG, GIF and all active plug-ins. - Its features include password protection, branding, internet linking, ebook feature customization, assigning unique serial numbers, a splash screen, file compression, and start-up messages. It also provides free lifetime upgrades. It also includes preprocessor, re-brander, active script functions, and has detailed instructions for using HTML, Power Point, and Microsoft Word files. - But although you don't need to have any working knowledge of HTML, you must be able to upload your page files in HTML. That is quite easily done, if you first write your pages in text format then save as HTML when uploading into the required 'preprocessor' folder/s etc.

Ebook Generator
Features of this ebook compiler include splash screens, password protection, branding, icon customization and compression control. They also include virus prevention to some degree, which alerts the 'user' to any modification made to ebooks.

It also offers usage statistics so you can track your ebook's use (intriguing) and is said by some reviewers to be extremely easy to use. Is it not therefore possible for readers/users etc of your ebook to track the intellectual property in your ebook files stored on your PC etc? - Inspired to write your next piece? - No matter. - This concept (feature) is certainly a virtually perfect example of why it's necessary to investigate promises/representations made; before selecting then purchasing or otherwise legally obtaining any compiler etc, as any honest and competent writer/author ought - investigate as thoroughly as possible; before putting pen to paper, so-to-speak. Universally applied law expects that much.

Ebook Creator
Ebook Creator is another compiler. It supports HTML, JPEG, GIF, and PNG graphics, and Javascript, VB script, and Java applets. - It also supports all Internet Explorer plugins. And its standard features include unique serial numbers, direct linking to a form or a page on your website? - They also include disabled right clicking, and search functions.

The software also allows for expiration of your created ebook/s after a number of days, or usages, which allows you to create demos etc. It also allows you to create up to 1000 different passwords, whereby users/readers of your ebook/s must enter their password each time they access protected pages after download to their PC etc.

So, from the above outlines/overviews of some of the best available compilers on the market, the above for example, there are some excellent compilers for you to obtain and use. But take care. Figure out everything you really need in a compiler, as circumstances permit. And why not try a demo version or two; taking the necessary care. Then why not compare prices; before you decide on which compiler you rate best suited to your ebook needs or aspirations.

Take care.
Leo Hunter
January 2007
All Rights Reserved
Published by Able Limited Editions
www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

Chosing An eBook Compiler

- Choosing A Compiler -
by
Leo Hunter
All Rights Reserved 2007
Published by
Able Limited Editions
www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

So you've written and revised your ebook, hired an artist who has produced outstanding graphics and edited it down or up to a reasonable standard etc. And now you're ready to actually put it all together in ebook form. What you need now is software called an ebook Compiler.

There are many different compilers to chose from. But first you need to know exactly what an ebook Compiler actually does. Here is a so-called simple description - an ebook compiler is a software program which converts text or HTML pages into one executable file, or ebook. But what that basic description doesn't express is the fact that a different type of compiler's needed for text and HTML, if you don't have an office software suite on board to convert one to the other etc. - That is, for example, if you have, or someone you hired has created a pre-ebook file with graphics in HTML, you will need an HTML ebook Compiler. If you don't have essential working knowledge of the HTML language to use this type of compiler, you must therefore use software to do this for you, such as Microsoft FrontPage or Macromedia Dreamweaver. So how do you choose a compiler?

There are a large number of ebook Compilers available on the market. All have glowing sales copy and tekkie language. It can therefore be very confusing and overwhelming in selecting a compiler. But generally, in simple terms, choosing a compiler depends on a number of factors. They include :-

1. How you created your pages. Did you use Microsoft Word then saved it as HTML or PDF format? Or did you use HTML or PDF? Can you change the format (copy it whilst in one format and paste it into the other) etc? Or can you save as from one format to the other? That is do you have a suitable office or other software suite? If not, first ensure you're selecting from the relevant compiler category. Then :-

2. Consider how easy the compiler you're considering is to use and thoroughness of the compiler software's instruction manual. It is absolutely necessary the compiler you buy has an instructional manual, or online wizards (that don't actually spy on the intellectual property in the files you intend to convert into an ebook). If it doesn't, your chances of figuring out how to use the compiler correctly are compromised. And the time required doing so will be significant. - Many manufacturers of compilers offer free trial versions so you can play around with it though, to see if it suits your needs. Download the trial version; if you trust the company offering that service, and ascertain that it actually does what the manufacturer or seller claims.

3. Security features. If you plan to sell your ebook, check out the security features of the compiler software carefully. They should include measures to prevent readers etc from modifying text etc. They should also include measures to prevent unauthorized people from accessing pages you didn't assign, such as password-protection and different ways of generating passwords such as secure passwords, user-friendly, and open passwords.

4. Supported scripting. Find out what scripts the software supports. Scripting allows you to create special effects, customize menus, and create and modify readers' interactivity. And choose a compiler that allows you to include graphics, search windows, hyperlinks, forms, surveys, etc.

5. Pricing. This is a factor that is not always easy to gauge. The highest priced compilers are not automatically the best choice. Choose a compiler based on your requirements for your ebook. That means you need to know exactly how you plan to use your ebook and what functions you require.

Now let's look at some of those factors in more detail. First of all, make sure you have the correct browser to run the compiler. The majority of HTML compilers use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. Check out the version the compiler supports. Compilers that require a browser will not run on a computer that doesn't have the required browser installed. However, there are ebook HTML compilers that don't require you to have any browser installed on your computer. These compilers run on any Windows system.

If you choose a compiler that requires a browser, check to ascertain that the browser is installed correctly and that it is properly configured to the specifications of the compiler. Check to see if certain functions are turned off or on, and make necessary adjustments according to the compiler instructions.

Security is an essential element of any compiler, regardless of whether you plan to sell or give away your ebook. One of the main reasons for using a compiler is to prevent the reader from modifying the contents. A secure compiler allows access only to the pages you want the user to access; possibly unless they enter a correct password etc.

To find out how secure an ebook HTML compiler is, open any ebook on it. While it's open, check the temporary directory of your computer. This can usually be accessed by typing in C:\Windows\temp. If you see a bunch of files there when your ebook is open or running, that means your computer is decompressing the secure data from your ebook before showing the ebook to the reader. It also means it's not secure, in that anyone with the knowledge of how to access these temporary files can steal the secure data, then they can fiddle with your ebook to their evil heart's desire. Remember, one of the purposes of buying and using an HTML compiler is to protect your [intellectual] property.

Next, let's discuss passwords. When trying to choose an ebook Compiler, check out the type of passwords that the compiler supports. Almost all compilers offer some kind of password protection that insures users can only access the contents they have purchased from you. However, the best compilers offer varied ways to generate different types of passwords. Choose a compiler that gives you the options of secure, user-friendly, and open password generation.

Another important password factor is how the compiler generates them. A compiler that has internal password protection generation built into the software is more secure, than compilers that link to live Internet password control systems.

Find out if the compiler generates passwords online. If it has this option, it allows you to choose any payment processing system you want or do the payment processing yourself.

Next, look into the size of ebook the compiler supports. The best compilers can create ebooks up to 2 GB in size without decompressing the HTML pages or images to your hard disk. Usually, ebooks that are 2 GB in size can easily support 6 GB of compressed data. The catch here, if any, is that only the text files will generally be compressible. You don't want a compiler that decompresses this amount of data when users attempt to open your ebook. This would mean that anyone who purchases your ebook will have to wait for all the data to decompress before they can access your ebook after downloading it. So look for compilers that only temporarily decompress files that are NOT HTML to the local hard disk. Non-HTML files include Flash, Word, and Acrobat files. - This type of compiler is more secure and certainly faster.

Make sure the compiler you choose is compatible with your system software. Check out what version of Windows it requires, and make sure you have that version before buying your compiler. Or install the correct version of Windows thereafter.
Support issues are extremely important. Choose a compiler that includes an installation program. This program allows your user to choose a number of different places on their computer to install the ebook, to place a shortcut on their desktop, and to add the ebook, if they choose, to the Start Programs menu.

You also want excellent and accessible vendor support. Make sure you can access quick technical support! At three o'clock in the morning, this factor will be VERY important.

Also check the terms of free technical support offered. Unlimited technical support is obviously the best option.

Check to see if the company that puts out the compiler software offers a service level agreement. This agreement is to assure you of their quality response to your questions or problems.

A good thing to consider is how long the compiler has been on the market. Usually, the version number will give you an idea. The longer the program is on the market or higher the version number, the more bugs have been worked out.

When choosing an ebook compiler, don't be swayed by incredible promises and dazzling sales copy. Do your homework on the issues touched on above, then all the raised issues and factors related to compiler rating; before choosing an ebook compiler. Then tally-ho folks. - Good luck. - See you in the cloudy battle fields of writers block.

This article of course relates to the concept of self-publishing as an author. But if you don't want to go through the hassle of choosing a compiler in that context, Able Limited Editions offer a range of publishing services designed to cater for your specific needs and wants. That is they will create the ebook for you from a range of PDF and EXE compilers.

Write on folks.

All Rights Reserved
Publisher Able Limited Editions
www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

Writers Block

- Writers Block -
by
Leo Hunter
All Rights Reserved 2007
Published by
Able Limited Editions
www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

What's writer's block? - Well, let's start this brief explanation by getting what all pitiful rivals, in particular, say and public probably perceive it to be kicked well and 'truthfully' out of the equation. Writer's block isn't the broad (vague) notion that 'Oh well. I just can't think of a single darn thing to say. I'm outta here!' sort of non-sense. Or 'Darn it. I can't think of what the word is'. Or 'It's on the tip of my tongue.' - Sound familiar? Yeah. Of course it's familiar, as religiously portrayed by your captor rival, looking over your shoulders from behind as they wait tirelessly with some clinical ardour for those bells to chime out your deadline.

No. Writer's block isn't the broad demon of those blank pages of timeous recall. After all, the vast majority of writers are actually 'commissioned' by someone who has a specific objective (answer/conclusion) in mind. And it makes no difference whatsoever if writers have decades of corroborated research material under their belt on the tabled issue and memorized every detail. They will be struck down with writers block; if their conclusion conflicts in any way with the 'commissioners' objective.

Yeah. You know how it goes. You've been to university to get the 'essential' qualification/s to write and be published – the qualification/s simply awarded on the basis that you answered all coded assignment questions the relevant way/s to reach the codified conclusion/s. Or maybe you gained a qualification through similar in-house training. No matter.

Now it's simple for adept writers to wonder down the road of commissioned objectivity; if they have no conscience, or fear of any subjective consequence of the objectivity. But the fact remains that most aspiring writers do have a conscience; but fear, by experience or hierarchal convention (immunized belief), never being paid for their conscious efforts and or 'commissioned' ever again., far less published of course portrayed as having nothing whatsoever of [value] to say to readers (the public audience). - And you of course know 'value' really means 'politically relevant', despite public perceptions of some monetary gain.

No. Writers block's decidedly not what's portrayed 'classically' as being some forgetfulness, or some lack of imagination, or any other said endowment-based reason why writers suffer writers block. - Writers block's the unavoidable war between the retention of one's own reasonable conscience and passive acceptance of unreasonable objectivity of one's own said employers/commissioners/editors/publishers. No more. No less.

Write on folks. But watch your back if you write the whole truth. Commissioners loathe it. And stay legal.

Why Write An eBook

- Why Write an eBook? -
by
Leo Hunter
All Rights Reserved 2007
Published by
Able Limited Editions
www.ablelimitededitions.co.uk

There are numerous reasons why aspiring, and possibly established modern-day authors and writers alike ought to consider jumping on the non-stop cyber-space band wagon to write an ebook, or four: far too many to outline here in an article. In fact, it's possible to write 500 pages of text merely to outline the reasons. But first, let's put the traditionalist record straight by noting that arguably the most important of all reasons, after all is said and done, is that it's absurd to say or note that everything that has been said has already been written. Or even that everything that ought to be said and written, on any issue, has already been said and or written. Certainly not 'published' into any public domain that is.

And the fourth sentence of this intro is but one example of how absurd such axioms are. It has never been said and or written before writing this piece that will be so published, one way or another.

Secondly: despite aspiring authors and writers being 'led' to 'believe' by traditionalists or any other 'political' society that 'freedom of speech' exits, another fact is that 'publishing' anything is dangerously constricted by the universally applied concept of 'trade secrets' obtained and held legally and lawfully under employment law etc. And that includes the fact that authors and or writers may have any amount of brilliant 'new ideas' to publish.

But if any of their ideas may lead readers deeper into the vehemently protected world of power than its ambiguously portrayed surface, then they have no realistic chance of ever being published by any such gatekeeper. - Certainly not for at least fifteen years after the fact that is; if they're not imprisoned for trying to have their 'reasonable work' published legally and lawfully 'in the public interest'. - Thirty, in the vast majority of cases, put in terms such as being published is 'like winning the lottery' as one top literary agent kindly informed me.

Thirdly: 'new ideas' are life-giving juices of intellectual property. Yet no law whatsoever even attempts to describe any idea as being in any way any part of intellectual property.

Now add those facts into this outline of this ebook equation and you begin to see why it would take at least 500 pages of text to list the relevant reasons in outline. - But let's say you have some brilliant idea and knowledge to corroborate it thereby enable you to write an exceptional ebook. But you may wonder why should you go through all the trouble of writing it when it's almost impossible to get anything worthwhile published so-to-speak?

Well, if you have, or decide to obtain software to create an ebook, writing, creating then self-publishing your ebook/s is by no means vanity publishing. - Vanity publishing is when writers or authors pay anyone to publish or have their work published etc.

Self-publishing ebooks is also useful if you already have or intend to launch an internet-based business with a quality website and product/s. - You may distribute and or sell ebooks in CD and or download format/s, which are products in themselves. What's more, affiliate programs/live links may be built into ebooks to divert readers to your or affiliate/s site/s.

You may even make your ebook/s interactive in some ingenious way. Questionnaires, order forms, surveys, crossword puzzles geared to testing their knowledge are but a few basic examples. Possibilities are virtually endless. They're therefore very powerful tools.

But, just as there are many hundreds of reasons why ebooks ought to be written, created, published etc, it's very easy indeed to fall fowl of the law on writing about almost any issue, publishing and selling it in any format, no matter where or how they're created etc.

And you must take care in selecting affiliates. Many merely pose as marketers but are in fact in the marketplace to get their hands on the viable ideas and or intellectual property of unsuspecting or inexperienced writers and authors etc. So unless law literate and have sufficient corroborative evidence etc to support your claims, ideas etc, take legal advice; before you write, create and publish; keeping in mind that under universally applied law that possession of what may be considered to be illegal or unlawful work intending it to be published is a criminal offence in itself.

As such, Able Limited Editions offer publishing services to newbie and established authors alike. And as part of that service, Able Limited Editions will guide authors through the writing process as indicated in their contract designed to cater for their particular needs and wants.

Take care.
